Principal
John D. Hilcher, CPA began his public accounting career with R.A. Fredericks & Company, LLP before joining Ernst & Young in 1984. In 1989, he established his own practice, providing tax, financial reporting, accounting, and management advisory services to clients primarily in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania, with the ability to practice in various states through reciprocity.
With extensive experience in foreign, federal, state, and local taxation, John specializes in corporate, partnership, fiduciary, individual, estate, and gift taxes. He also provides tax controversy and planning services, helping clients minimize or defer tax liabilities across multiple jurisdictions.
John’s financial reporting practice includes audit, review, and compilation engagements, all of which undergo rigorous peer review to ensure the highest professional standards.
He is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in New Jersey and Tennessee and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJSCPA). John earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Montclair State University in 1983.
John R. Hilcher (JR) is a former collegiate baseball player and a staff accountant at John D. Hilcher, CPA P.C. while pursuing his Master’s in Accounting at William Paterson University.
He earned his Bachelor of Science from Lynn University in 2019 before launching his career as a Business Development Manager at a logistics company in Long Beach, California, where he specialized in business-to-business (B2B) sales. In 2020, he briefly pursued professional baseball before transitioning into accounting, joining our firm in early 2021.
Beyond his accounting expertise, JR brings valuable skills in social media, website design, and marketing. With his entrepreneurial mindset, he is helping to lead the firm toward a more progressive and technology-driven future. We are excited to support him as he makes the transition from the field to the office.
